Groove
A dance concert with the spirit of a night out. Groove brings The Ruggeds and Ghetto Funk Collective together in a vibrant collaboration where live music, breaking and funk-driven dance share the spotlight.
Availability, fees, final line-up and production requirements are confirmed for each enquiry. Listed formats and running times are subject to the proposed booking.
The show journeys through fifty years of funk, soul and hip hop, drawing on the era of James Brown, Nina Simone and Herbie Hancock before moving through hip hop, house and the sounds connecting them. The music is central to the experience, not simply a backing track.
An eight-person cast of multidisciplinary performers combines dance, instruments and improvisation. The Ruggeds' breaking vocabulary meets Ghetto Funk Collective's locking and musical identity, with artists moving between roles to create a concert built around the relationship between sound and movement.
Produced by The Ruggeds, with creative direction by Niek Traa, choreography by Ruben 'Chi' Verhoeven and music by Jessy 'FORTBEIGE' Kemper and Alexander 'Shield Beats' Henriksen. Light and set design are by Ido Koppenaal, with costumes by Jinko Joshu.
Bookable as a separate production for theatres, festivals and event programmes. Enquire through ProDance to discuss your venue, programme and audience. Running time, cast configuration, availability, fees and production requirements are confirmed for the proposed booking.
